It was supposed to be an ordinary morning â until something in my toilet blinked.
I walked into the bathroom half awake, planning to wash my face before the kids got up. I lifted the toilet lid, expecting nothing but silence and routine.
But then I stopped breathing.
Something dark sat at the bottom of the bowl. At first, I thought maybe something had fallen in â a brush, a toy, a bottle cap. But then it moved.
Slowly. Smoothly. Purposefully.
For a moment I just stared, trying to make sense of it. The movement wasnât random â it was alive. Then the surface rippled, and I caught a flash of shiny black scales glinting under the water.
Thatâs when my stomach dropped.
There was a snake inside my toilet.
I slammed the lid shut so fast it made a cracking sound. My hands were trembling as I yelled for my kids, grabbed them, and bolted out the front door without even stopping to grab shoes.
Outside, I called animal control with shaking fingers. My heart was still hammering as I tried to explain what Iâd seen.
When the specialists arrived, they opened the lid carefully â and there it was. Coiled, calm, and glistening like it owned the place.
One of the men told me it wasnât unusual. âThey follow the plumbing sometimes,â he explained. âEspecially during warm weather. Cool, dark pipes â perfect hiding spots.â
I just stood there, stunned.
My safe little home suddenly didnât feel so safe anymore.
They took the snake away, assuring me it wasnât venomous â just lost. But even now, every time I walk into that bathroom, I check the toilet first. I canât help it.
Once youâve seen something moving where it shouldnât move â you never forget it.
