Former President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have been married for 20 years, and together they share one son — Barron Trump, born in 2006, the same year they wed.
Growing up in Trump Tower, Barron had an entire floor to himself. Yet, despite the wealth surrounding him, his childhood was surprisingly grounded. Melania famously chose not to hire a full-time nanny, instead preparing his meals and handling daily routines herself.
In past interviews, Melania described Barron as imaginative, curious, and creative, emphasizing her belief in hands-on parenting. “He needs somebody as a parent there, so I am with him all the time,” she told People in 2015. Donald Trump agreed, saying they wanted to keep “outside help to a minimum” so Barron would feel close to his parents.
Melania also encouraged Barron’s creativity in unconventional ways. She allowed him to draw on the walls of his playroom and decorate it with his favorite themes — especially planes and helicopters. “His imagination is important,” she said. “We can always paint it over.”
Barron Trump Today: College and a Quiet Life in New York
Now 19, Barron is studying at New York University’s Stern School of Business, choosing a different academic route than his older siblings, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
Unlike most freshmen, Barron isn’t living in a dorm. According to reports, he decided to continue living at home, a choice supported by both parents. A source told People that Melania prefers to stay close to him, ensuring his privacy and well-being as he adjusts to university life.
“Whether or not others think he is capable of being on his own, Melania feels it’s better to be around him as much as possible,” the source said.
A Proud Mother
Melania has often spoken of her pride in Barron’s character and maturity, describing him as “strong, intelligent, and kind.” She’s encouraged him to think independently and make his own choices — including where to study and how to live.
While Barron’s life has been far from ordinary, his parents hope his college years bring him new opportunities, balance, and growth.
There it is.
