Lizzie Velasquez was born on March 13, 1989, in Texas, weighing just 4.6 pounds (2.1 kg). Doctors later diagnosed her with an extremely rare condition called Marfanoid Progeroid Lipodystrophy Syndrome, which prevents her body from storing fat or gaining weight.
Because of the condition, Lizzie has never weighed more than 62 pounds (28 kg) and is blind in her left eye. From an early age, she stood out in ways the world did not always understand.
School was especially difficult. Lizzie faced constant stares, insults, and bullying. The cruelty reached a peak when a viral video labeled her the “world’s ugliest woman,” exposing her to millions of hateful comments online.
Instead of hiding, Lizzie chose to speak out. She began sharing her story through videos and public talks, focusing on self worth, resilience, and kindness rather than appearance.

In 2013, her TEDxAustinWomen talk changed everything. Her honest message about overcoming bullying went viral and inspired people around the world to rethink beauty and self value.
Lizzie went on to earn a communications degree, become a motivational speaker, and write books centered on confidence and mental strength. She also uses social media to promote positivity and stand up against online cruelty.

Today, Lizzie Velasquez is a global advocate for self love and mental health. Her story proves that appearance does not define worth and that resilience can transform even the most painful experiences.
